Be aware that some programs that are very similar to Photoshop can have sophisticated features that Photoshop does not offer. You might want to check out the image manipulation programs listed in the upcoming section “Making Photo Memories: The Full-Fledged Photo Apps.”

Using Photoshop

Photoshop is a sophisticated imaging and editing program that is packed full of features. The program actually has three primary functions: image editing, feature extraction, and batch processing.

Editing images

The heart of the program is its image-editing functions. In the following steps, I discuss creating a composite image. You can skip this step if you have a storyboard for your image (that is, you know how many images will be in the final composite) and simply want to see how the composite images are created.

To see how you can use Photoshop to create a composite image, start by creating a new file. To create a new file, choose File⇒New. The New dialog box (shown in Figure 16-1) opens. At the top of the dialog box, click the option Create a New Document With the settings shown in Figure 16-1.

Be sure to click inside the box (the white box surrounding the yellow box) that appears below the title of the New dialog box if you want to start from scratch. Otherwise, you will have to return to the New dialog box each time you want to start a new file.

To save the image, you use the Save As command, as follows:

• Choose File⇒Save As.

• In the Save As dialog box, navigate to the folder where you want the new file to be saved and then click the Save button.

After you save a file, you can name it (it isn’t a requirement, but you do have to give the file a name), and then you can add a background (also called a frame, a frame of reference, or the canvas) in Photoshop by using the Image⇒Place command.

You can insert a frame in many different ways. Click the canvas (the blank, white area that is empty) to place it in the background. In the following section, I show you how to use a few useful tools to create a compelling background.

What is a 360 degree image?

This kind of software has a special feature to rotate the image around its axis. The feature allows you to add a new level of realism to any image you add the feature to. Photoshop Elements is one of the easiest software to rotate images. This allows you to rotate your image around the center and frame it using the original layer.

The main reason to have a 360 degree image is to create virtual tours, or photo tours.

These tours are a big family of the photo tours. The photo tours can be special places like: museums, galleries, offices, and houses. The tours are also great for real estate property. It can make you seem like you are right there with the customer who is buying the house.

If you are a business owner, you can create a 360 degree tour for your company. As I said before, this kind of tours look really professional because the people that are going to see the image will know that they are in a specific place or have the chance to go there.

How to create a panoramic image using Photoshop Elements

To create a panoramic image, you will need to:
