Nik Software’s Nik, a popular alternative, offers many of Photoshop’s capabilities with significantly lower price points. An Apple Inc. product called Aperture has also received some attention, but with its lack of subscription pricing it has been largely abandoned as a serious alternative to Photoshop.

Gayle Brennan

Gayle Brennan (born June 19, 1952) is a Vancouver City Councillor and a teacher.

Born in Victoria, he attended the University of New Brunswick and University of British Columbia before moving to Vancouver in 1972. He became active in the local service sector and eventually became a union representative for Local 45 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees. He also organized two successful campaigns for the school board. He has been active in politics since 1982 and has been a candidate for office in Vancouver from 1983 to the present. He was first elected to the Vancouver School Board in 1991, was re-elected in 1994 and served three terms from 1991 to 1997. He ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of Vancouver in 1997. In 2006, he ran for a seat on Vancouver city council after Councillor Diane Colley-Urquhart announced her retirement. He won the seat in the 2006 municipal election. In 2011, he faced nine other candidates in a hotly contested primary race and was victorious.

Clinical and parasitological remission rates, time of treatment and side-effects were evaluated in 96 patients treated with meglumine antimoniate and 57 patients treated with sodium stibogluconate, or both. Objective assessment of therapeutic efficacy was performed in 64 patients who were in whom relapse was suspected, and in 23 patients who were monitored for 2 years or more after treatment. The overall clinical efficacy of meglumine antimoniate and sodium stibogluconate was high (98.4% and 98%, respectively), and significant differences between the two drugs could not be detected. The duration of the treatments was not significantly different for the two drugs and the proportion of patients who relapsed within 12 months after end of treatment was 12.5% for meglumine antimoniate and 7.0% for sodium stibogluconate or both
